LARGE RACIAL DISPARITIES IN SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY, PROFESSOR FINDS

A University at Albany assistant professor has begun looking into how sex offender registries reveal the inequalities of the criminal justice system.

The findings of Trevor Hoppe, an assistant professor of sociology, have been published in his paper, “Punishing Sex: Sex Offenders and the Missing Punitive Turn in Sexuality Studies.” The study indicates that approximately 1 percent of African American males in the United States are registered sex offenders while white males are registered at approximately half that rate. It seems to me this kind of information and all the rest that supports the fact that sex offender registries are not being brought to the attention of the mainstream, or those who can change the laws. Maybe some of these articles and ideas should be on the front page of newspapers to get exposure. As far as I know space on any paper is paid for with cash.

We all know these laws are irrational and illegal. But until it gets national exposure, and I mean public, not much will happen. I am not concerned about the public’s right to know who is or isn’t convicted of a sex offense. Hey, if they want to waste their time and money, be my guest.

What does concern me is how they get the information. I should have nothing to do with its appropriation, either personallyor through my private matters. Anything public is fair game. So someone, someway has to get this issue on a national platform, otherwise we’re just beating on a dead horse. But thanks for the article and research.

Well there goes another myth, debunking that notion that the war on sex is fair and cleansed of any racial bias. It’s all such a pure cause to save the children, like the drug war was tauted before it.

I was just thinking that maybe ACSOL could buy some space. I would donate 20 and up to 50 bucks for that. In fact, next month I will begin donating, not much, but every little bit helps. I’m just getting wore out with the anger. I need positive change to start happening. It is, and I give lots of thanks to the foot soldiers and thinkers trying to help people.

I would also like to see some articles about groups or people that are helping if that is possible. Maybe celebrate something that’s happened in their lives. Right now I’m trying to save my son’s job from a company that ignores contracts, creates punitive policies against those contracts, thinks it can impose them retroactively, applies discipline that the contract says is unlawful. Yea, it’s not just SCP’s (sexually convicted persons) that are being denied their legal rights in this country, it’s everyone.

Everyone in this country is being denied their rights in one way or another. White, black, brown, male, female, young, old, tired, and disenfranchised. These are the people who the statue of liberty is supposed to want. That’s us, we belong here. Maybe it should be torn down, maybe it should say only those we want can come here, only those with money, skills, etc. Then we can complain how they are taking all the good jobs. Yea, it’s a brutal never ending saga.

Oh well, life goes on for those willing to adapt, persevere, and put up with the nonsense. That’s what we do, lol.

I must be having a Déjà vu moment. I seem to have read this about 3-4 years ago.
